Toronto Stadium

Toronto Stadium is confirmed for six 2026 World Cup matches, including Canada's opening match against Bosnia and Herzegovina on 12 June. It will also host five additional fixtures, ending with a Round of 32 match on 2 July.

BMO Field is located at Exhibition Place near Toronto's waterfront, placing World Cup matches close to downtown neighbourhoods, transit, and lakefront attractions. Compared with many of the larger North American venues, it offers a more compact football feel, with roofed seating areas and an atmosphere shaped by Toronto FC supporters and Canada national-team nights. The stadium is usually used for MLS, CFL, and international football, but temporary seating and event upgrades expand its tournament profile for 2026. Its importance comes from scale and intimacy: fans should feel closer to the pitch than in many converted NFL venues, while still being in one of Canada's biggest cities. As Canada's opening-match venue, BMO Field gives Toronto a symbolic role in welcoming the men's World Cup to Canadian soil.

Opened in 2007 and expanded in later renovation phases, BMO Field was originally built to give Toronto FC a soccer-first home. It has hosted MLS Cup matches, Canadian Championship fixtures, Canada national-team qualifiers, and Grey Cup events after adapting for the Toronto Argonauts. Renovations added more seats, roof coverage, hospitality areas, and infrastructure for larger events. For 2026, the stadium is receiving temporary capacity expansion and match-day upgrades, helping a venue with strong local football culture meet World Cup standards.
